Hard as Rocks

The sons of the dragon may move slowly, but woe betide anyone who gets in their way when they do.

Dwarfs - in SPACE!!!!  If you are a fan of dwarfs of any kind, you generally know what to expect.  Slower troops, but heavily armored and lots of powerful weapons.  For them it isn't about being first.  Instead it is slow and steady and unyielding - and once they are in place good luck getting them to move.  And in the rare occasion you do take something from them, they hold grudges for a very long time.

Of the six sprues I have got my hands on so far, these are definitely the largest - 30% larger than the Asterian sprue!  (24.5 cm vs 17.5 cm)

The Mantic Assembly guide for the Forge Fathers is here.

So let's see what's on the sprue!

A - Command  Huscarl

So we start out a little confusing - because this is just labelled command (which should be HQ), but there is no unit called command.  Even the Mantic Assembly Guide is no help here.  However if you look at the reinforcements, there you have specifically a Chief Brokkr, Forge Lord and Iron Ancestor Command (ok, no one things this is an Iron Ancestor).  So this is actually a Huscarl.  One thing to pay attention to however - the reinforcements DO NOT have the little extra command figure to add to the base - (and I assume that is true across the entire range) - so don't just slap together 6 plastic command models - as you may want the other variants.  (I don't know why they made command use the unit base instead of the single base which would make it simpler all around).

Command (Huscarl)

B - Forge Guard
So here I think there was a mixup between the plans and the models - it says you get 6 bases in the box, which is 1 base per sprue.  And you get 4 of them.  However these are the large infantry  models, so only have two models per base.  Meaning you get 12 bases - so 2 full units in the core box, not just one.  It also means that the model count given is incorrect (you get 210 models, not the 198 specified).

Forge Guard

C - Hultr Halftrack

Not quite a tank, but still a nice little unit. This actually comes in 4 pieces, but is not difficult to put together at all.

C2

C3

C4

I suggest starting with the two halves, c2 and c3

Then slide the front piece (the one that looks like a face) into the tabs in the body

Then finally attach the Hailstorm Autocannon.  Some people have talked about magnetizing these so you have have them point in different directions - at this scale I don't see the point.

Hultr Halftrack

D - Iron Ancestor
This is probably my favorite of the models - but then I've always liked the striders in Mantic's range.  Again it comes in four parts, also very easy to assemble

D3
(I have absolutely no idea why this part is so dark in the picture when it is using the exact same setup as the others.  A weird (digital?) photography trick.

D4

So start by gluing the head/chest (D2) to the body (D1)

Then the ball joints fit the arms.  You can put these on in either order.

Finally, he goes on a single 25mm base

Iron Ancestor

E - Rekkhyrrs
What is the best way to put down just about anything - fire!  Dragonbreath Flamers!

E1

E2

Rekkyrs

F - Steel Warriors
These are the backbone of your army - the vast majority of your infantry.  The boxes has 18 bases (3 units) of them, so there are 3 per sprue.

Steel Warriors

G - there is no G.  I have no idea why they skipped G.

H - Stormrage Veterans
These are a little confusing, because they are equipped with both Mjolnir Missile Launchers AND Magma Cannons - so two models with each per base.

H1 - Mjolnir Missile Launchers

H2 - Magma Cannons

Stormrage Veterans

I - I must have run off with G to get a pint at the pub.  (Ok, I can see skipping I, and it looks like the number 1)

J - Tanks Tanks Tanks!  Yes, there are three tanks on the sprue.

Assembly is again straight forward, the treads fit on onto the top of the hull, and the back panel in the back afterward.

This is where the description that comes with the picture is incorrect.  This makes three different vehicles, not just the Sturnhamer.   It has 18 hulls and 12 Magma Cannon turrets, but inste4ad of the 12 apc hatches it has 12 Dragonbreath Flamers. The first is complete at this step

Drakkar APC.

Drakkar APC

There is no hatch piece to go over the spot for the turret.  If you really wanted a hatch, you could always download and shrink the hatch from the Wolverine APC Turret Upgrade on the Mantic Vault.

J5

There are three Dragonbreath Flamers, so you can add this to make the second option

Brandr Urban Assault Vehicles

Finally, there are three Heavy Magma Cannons, to make the final option

Sturnhammer Battle Tank

I have seen people on Facebook talking about magnetizing the turrets so you can switch them out.  (You could also do that by putting a single pin in the turret and a hole in the mount point).  Granted, I'm not planning on playing Forge Fathers, but with 18 models, that is enough for 6 units of tanks (and don't forget 2 unit s of Halftracks).  It seems to me to be enough to not need to switch out the weapons.

Finally, there is K for the Thorgarim.
Remember, when all you have is a hammer, EVERYTHING looks like a nail.

So sprue makes 35 models (14 bases)

Because it is all fun and games . . .
