Adepticon 2025 4: Halo: Flashpoint Team Tournament

Welcome to the FINAL Adepticon tournament blog for me (this year).

I have to make two apologies for this one - not just for being sooooo very late, but also I am so sorry that while I can identify the teams in the pictures, I honestly cannot identify the individual players in most of them (ok, the husband and wife team I can (simply because they were the only one!)  (I still can't say their last name correctly however, so that makes up for it :-) ).

10 teams means 20 players!

We initially had 15 teams registered, but only 9 1/2 showed up.  Michael Holtzman's partner had gotten sick and was not able to make it to Adepticon, so I called upon our designated ringer (Cyle Pool) to make the sacrifice and spend the day playing games.  (Can you guess which one is Cyle in the picture above?)

Round 1: Zvez v The Prophets were Right

Round 1: Cincinnati Outpost Scouts v DVD

Round 1: ShortBus SuperHeroes v MC Halo

Round 1: I though this was couple's therapy v BabyMen

Round 1: ODST v Pozole Party

Apparently I missed getting pictures of round 2 (boy, I suck at this :-) ).  We did take a quick lunch break and I tried to get pictures of all the Fireteams  (I hope I have them all labeled correctly)

Zvez

MC Halo

ShortBus SuperHeroes (took advantage of the rules that did not explicitly specify both sides of the team had to be from the same faction!)

I thought this was couple's therapy (I love families that play games together)

ODST

BabyMen

The Prophets were Right

DVD

Pozole Party

As I was looking over the pack during the first game, I realized that except for the composition of the fireteams, there was nothing to indicate that the players were a team.  So I made a couple of changes on the fly.

For round 2, there was a comms failure - Members of a team could not talk to each other (because the comms were out) unless they each had a model in the same cube.  Some people like it, some did not.  I wish I had a video of the moment when Brian (of I though this was couple's therapy) reached over and gently (and silently) guided Jessica's hand to indicate where she should move her model.

For the third round, the teams had to show teamwork.  Normally in close combat, you get a bonus die if you have a friendly model in the same cube.  In this game, this only applied if the friendly model was one of  your teammates - so you could not support yourself).

One team (the Cincinnati Outpost Scouts) had to leave early due to the severe weather rolling in (we got lucky, as we managed to be just behind the storm the entire way home, not even getting any rain until we hit the Ohio border on I-70).  Rick managed to round up a couple of pathfinders to play the last round as the Pathy Boys.

Round 3: Zvez v Pathy Boys

Round 3: Pozole Party v I thought this was couple's therapy

Round 3: DVD v MC Halo

Round 3:The Prophets were Right v Zvez

Round 3: BabyMen v ShortBus SuperHeroes

And though we were running a bit late due to finding ringers and taking an unscheduled lunch break, eventually it was all over.

The best sportsman and best painted awards were both based on player votes, so a team could win one (or both) of those and also a medal for game play.

Blood Gulch Recruits : Zvez

Third Place: Pozole Party

Best Sportsmen: BabyMen

2nd Place: MC Halo

1st Place AND Best Painted: The Prophets were Right

Thank you very much to all the players, and to Cyle, Joel and Troy for stepping in to play so no one had to sit out with a bye.  Overall everyone seemed to be having a good time, and I really like team formats, so I would like to see this continue (with the Wargames point building system).  We do need to make sure there is team interaction every round (right now there just aren't really any rules where models interact with their buddies at all).

Sorry I'm not able to put names with faces - (I have noticed that the Adepticon badges tend to always want to be backward).  I do look forward to seeing all these faces again next year though.

Because it is all fun and games . . .
