This weekend we had the 9th annual Gem City Massacre. Once again we had 14 players and were hosted by Epic Loot Games in Centerville OH. At one point we were overfull (but got permission to add a couple of folding tables to get 2 more players in, but then (unfortunately) we had 4 players drop. It was great that we had 3 players in their first ever Kings of War tournament (there is a very active and growing community in Columbus).
Plus it was Matthew Temple's Birthday! What a better way to spend it than rolling dice with friends.

This tournament has everyone bring a either a Kringle (for good) or Krampus (for evil) armies (neutral can choose either). They actually have the exact same stats - basically being having Very Inspiring, Bane Chant(2), Radiance of Life(2), Regeneration (4+) and Command(Blue).
Yes, we used command dice. Kringle allowed you to re-roll one, and roll one point over to the next turn if alive.
We set up a special area where people could see and vote for their favorite model.
We then got started a little late after lunch with round 2.

We had trophies, which gift cards to the store. Plus door prizes for those who didn't win trophies.
|
Overall Champion ($60 gift card), Best General ($30 gift card), Jesse Cornwell Sports ($30 gift card + ogre warlock figure) |
|
Best Appearance ($30 gift card), Favorite Kringle/Krampus (Santa v Krampus Dice Throne game), Dice Hate Me (Ohio War Kings dice, wound cards and bag). |
We had a decent selection of door prizes for those that didn't get a trophy (not including the dice hate me). People got to pick their prize in reverse order of their placing (because the bottom players most likely needed models more than any winners.
Round 3 then got started (if a little late)

Jon Carter v William Oesterle |
|
Jimmy Livers v Don Gorman |

And with that, we had our winners.
Overall I think it went very well, and everyone seemed to have fun. We did have a slight problem with time (that I'll blame on using the command dice). Opinions on command dice are mixed.
So see everyone in February at
Hoosier Storm 2025!
Because it is all fun and games . . .
