MIGT 2023

Amazingly I am still around, and last weekend was running events at the Michigan GT, running the small Armada tournament on Friday, and helping Blake Shrode with the Grant Prix of Michigan Kings of War GT on Saturday and Sunday (he is the front man, I brought the terrain and did the scoring).

For the Armada tournament, we had five players (so I was the ringer).  This was the only time I have played Armada outside of my learn to play events at Origins and Gencon that I can remember.

Blake Shrode, Kyle Ritchey, Matthew Puskar, Dan Zarembski and Donny Krosch (in front).

Kyle v Matthew

Blake v Dan

My game v Donny (he stepped away for a minute)

Dan Zarembski - Favorite Opponent

Kyle Ritchey - Favorite Fleet

Kyle Ritchie - Wooden Spoon

Matthew Puskar - Counter-Charger

Blake Shrode - Champion

Here are the final results.

Place Name Fleet Vp Sp Awards
1 Blake Shrode Empire of Dust 13 299 Champion

The big event was of course the Kings of War GT.  This year we had 30 players - 50% more than last year!  We were the third largest event, and the only one that was growing significantly.

Everyone knows that the Twilight Kin are on their way.  Well since Kyle works for Mantic, he brought pre-release models (the list came out in the companion less than a week before).  I figured I'd try to show them off a bit.

Voidtouched Mutants - fast to fill in the place of cavalry, as they don't have any

Impalers - huge with the big shield rule

I wanted to show just how much bigger the Impalers were over the voidtouched mutants

Corsair Voidwalkers - with the option to take nets giving them ensnare

A Void Skiff - Kyle was using this as his special chariot.  These are supposed to start shipping on the 18th of October

Bright and early Sunday morning we got started with round 4

Billy Henninger v Jeff Franz

Full information, rules, lists and results are at the tournament page - Grand Prix of Michigan 2023

Overall it was a great tournament - Blake is already thinking of new scenarios and we are hoping to just keep growing!

Thanks to all the players for coming out and for Blake for doing the hard job of organizing and recruiting to get butts in seats.  He is great being the face of the tournament (while I just hide behind the scenes).

Because is it all fun and games . . .
