Sponsor Spotlight: Ironheart Artisans

Once again, Ironheart Artisans is sponsoring the War Kings GT

Ironheart Artisans has been supporting Kings of War just about as long as it has been around.  They have long been known for their MDF and acrylic tokens for spells and magic items as well as templates and movement trays (I especially like their trays, as they are both a try AND a multibase.

However, with the publication of CoK 2019 with the new, revised (and playable) siege rules, they have come out with a line of terrain and siege engines scaled great for Kings of War and other 28 mm war games.  And to just give everyone a taste, all attendees at the tournament will get a siege Mantel kit.

A siege mantel is crucial to protect your archers and other infantry units as they try to cross the killing field in front of a fortress.  The defenders have cleared out anything that could be used as cover - so you must bring your own!

This is a nice little MDF kit - and I opened one up to let you see just how nice it is.

It has 13 MDF pieces, laser etched on one side.  Assembly is fairly easy using white glue - you start by putting the spikes through the back of the large shield

followed by gluing the cover piece to the front (easily aligned with the three holes).

Then attach the two side pieces - they have a square hole that fits over the peg from the spikes that sticks out on the side.

Each wheel has two pieces, so glue the two un-etched sides together.  If you are a stickler you will want to make sure that the direction of the wood grain matches for both sides, but I doubt anyone will be checking when they are hiding behind this trying NOT to get peppered with arrows from the archers on the fortress walls.

The wheels then go over the pegs from the spike strip, than the small round end piece with the square hole goes over the end to lock them on.  You could actually leave the wheels unglued to the axle if you want to actually allow them to roll and make it easier for your miniatures to push it across the field (because we all know how tough the infantry grunts have it in the army).

Next glue the support piece to the back of the mantlet.  It has two notches that fit over the side supports.

Then glue the front support over the small holes in the front - because you won't want this coming apart under fire, would you?

And your siege mantle is done.  These are the smallest of the three they make - they fit perfectly in front of a 50mm base for artillery.  They also make make one that fits normal infantry (100mm wide) as well as large infantry (120mm wide).

However even if you aren't planning on storming the castle any time soon, there is another use that these kits would be perfect for, and this is making Ogre Siegebreakers.  Use one of the larger kits to give your ogres with 2 handed weapons their Big Shields!

I only have the smaller one - but you get the idea
To make it even more 'realistic' - assemble it  normally, then have a couple of red goblins pushing it - and it then makes that unit make sense (because how could ogres with huge 2 handed weapons carry large shields at the same time?

They have lots more in this like, including pieces for defenders (the fortress) and attackers (siege towers and battering rams).

So even if you are only partially dead and plan on storming a castle in the future - you now know where to go to get your siege equipment - Ironheart Artisans!

Because it is all fun and games . . .
