Wow, can it be August already? Where has the summer gone already?
Of course the big thing in August is Gencon! This year is he 50th anniversary, and they are sold out! So if you procrastinated and didn't get a badge - well maybe we will see you next year. Gencon has NEVER sold out before, and it makes me curious as to how many badges they are limited to.
Of course if you have your Gencon badge - then come stop by the Mantic games area in hall B - we have plenty of events for you to do. Yes, the Walking Dead, Deadzone and Warpath events are also sold out - however that does not mean you can't get in. There are always no shows during conventions for any number of reasons - so if you have a generic ticket you can usually get in a game if a ticket holder doesn't show up.
We do have tickets for most of the Kings of War events left though. So come and learn to play, or jump in on a big battle or the mega battle. The how You Use It! tournament is back on Friday, and the escalation tournament for the King of Gencon is on Saturday.
After Gencon, if anyone is capable of thinking beyond it (I know I'll be brain fried for at least a couple of days afterward) the Kings of War Worldwide Campaign - "The Edge of the Abyss" starts. Our weekly game night will be about playing campaign games, and we will probably set up a Saturday or two to get more in as well - watch our Facebook page for details.
I am in the process of locking down dates and locations for a couple of Kings of War tournaments in the Dayton area. Several people have asked for me to continue with the Gem City Massacre in the late fall (as they need a small tournament for their masters score). I hope to have this at Epic Loot again in early November. We are also looking at doing a full 2 day GT in late April / early May, and are just waiting to lock this in on our calendars.
We are also looking at the possiblity of having our first Deadzone tournament this fall - this is still in the "idea' stage.
I've heard that Veermyn tunnel runners (along with Forge Father tanks and half tracks) are shipping and some people in Dayton have already received theirs (I'm not jealous at all. No not me. I can be patient (so I keep telling myself)) Mantic has changed manufacturer's for their vehicles, so hopefully the GCPS and Asterian vehicles will be showing up soon!
The Ohio War Kings are growing, as we now have 18 official members (either by paying for their membership, or working events). Checkout our web page ( https://goo.gl/XWazhG ) for details on membership - remember all Regiment members and above will be eligible for the club discount on their Origins badge next year! We continue to meet up on Friday nights at 6 pm - the 1st, 3rd (and 5th when it happens) Fridays are at Epic Loot, the 2nd and 4th are at the Hobby Shop. Plus I have just gotten in more of the Ohio War Kings messenger bags - still only $20! Look for a new surprise soon as well (maybe at Gencon?)
If you can't get enough of me babbling on about games and hobbies, please check out my blog at http://blog.untilsomebodylosesaneye.net/ . Somehow this past year I've managed to find enough to update twice a week (Monday and Thursday at 6:00 pm) and I hope to continue to share my bizarre thoughts with everyone. If there is something you want me to write about let me know - I definitely take requests (and my son Jon says he gives me all my good ideas anyway).
