Leaves are (finally) raked, the weather has warmed back up to 'normal' fall levels, the politicians and ghosts have crawled back into their holes to quit frightening us, and the annual American celebration of gluttony and football is almost upon us, so it is time for another newsletter.
The third build month and second game month of the escalation league is nearly done - remember to make sure you show me your finished 300 pts for November by the end of the month! Almost everyone has their games in, though there are a few people that need to play yet tonight. Remember, starting next week we play 1000 pt games. December is also a chance to catch up on your painting if you didn't finish a month, as well as some time to make the extras (display board, wound counters, wavering tokens, objective tokens, turn counter) for those important extra points.
I am still waiting for final confirmation, but the plan is to have the end-of-league tournament on January 17th at the Hobby Shop. Doors open at 10 am, and I'd like to have the first game start by 11 am. The cost will be $10, and this is open to everyone - whether you played in the league or not.
If you like Kings of War, have you heard of the "Kings of War Fantasy Battle Game - 2nd Edition" kickstarter? The new edition is coming this summer, and you can get a copy of both the hardback book with all the rules, background and even hobby tips as well as the smaller softback gamer's rulebook (which has everything you need to play the game (without the fluff) in an easily transportable format) for a pledge of only $50! Or you can add in army deals with the book for $150 - and get great deals on armies to build. It ends at 6:59 pm EST - so you only have a week left. Check it out at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1744629938/kings-of-war-fantasy-battle-game-2nd-edition .
What is next for us after this? How about some Dreadball? Yes, the first Dayton Dreadball league will be starting in February on Monday nights at the Hobby Shop. If you haven't played, then come by on Mondays in January and learn to play this fun game. The best point is that it won't hurt your wallet too badly, as all you need is a team - and they only cost about $20 (and the Hobby Shop has several). More details to come. Adeticon tournament rules (which we will use for this) are available here : http://www.puggimer.net/documents/Adepticon_CoK2015.pdf.
In February (planning on the 21st, but waiting for date confirmation) we are planning on having a Kings of War Adepticon Regional at the Hobby Shop. This is a 1500 pt tournament using the Adepticon rules, to get ready for the big Clash of Kings tournament at Adepticon. Cost is again $10, and in addition to any other prize support, the winner will get free admission into the Clash of Kings tournament at Adepticon. We are limited to a max of 16 players.
Speaking of Adepticon - if you are planning on going registration begins tonight (11/24/14) at 9:00 pm EST. Adepticon is known for its great swag bags - usually worth close to $100 in freebies, but these are generally limited to the first 1000 people to register (so they sell out very quickly). Mantic has a huge number of events, including plans for a "Mantic night" featuring games, Q/A with Ronnie Renton, and even pizza! Registration is at http://www.adepticon.org/ (and check out more details on Mantic at Adepticon on their blog (http://manticblog.com/2014/11/07/registration-for-mantic-events-opening-soon/).
Deadzone wave 2 has shipped, and we are starting to see Asterians and Forge Fathers (well, except for the Forge Guard, who are taking a leisurely cruise from China before they plan to conquer Nexus Psi) battling the Plague and other factions.
Not only that, but Mars Attacks! is also out. The flying saucers and trucks are being released this month, and I expect that the big stompy robot (this guy is huge - 7" tall) will be available soon.
Dreadball Extreme is getting ready to ship, with those lucky players in the UK being able to pick their first wave up at the Mantic Open Day on November 29th. So if normal Dreadball is just to tame for you - Extreme ups the body count and the number of teams (from 12 to 24), with eventual rules to play all the teams in either game!
Make sure to update your calendars, as it is always good to plan ahead for upcoming tournaments and conventions:
1/17/15 - End of League Tournament (date to be confirmed)
2/21/15 - Adepticon Primer (date to be confirmed)
3/19/15 - 3/23/15 - Adepticon - (Chicago IL) 1500 pt Kings of War,
12,000 + point big battle, a fun campain event (1000 pts +
500 pt allie force). Plus lots of Deadzone and Dreadball.
4/17/15 - OHCon (Toledo OH) - I'll have more information as I get it.
5/1-3/15 - Cincycon (Cincinnati OH). Dreadball and Kings of War. (More to come)
6/5/15 - 6/8/15 - Origins (Columbus OH)
7/30/15 - 8/3/15 - GenCon (Indianapolis IN)
I'm always looking for feedback, so feel free to drop me a line at puggimer@gmail.com . Keep painting and playing!
