Ok, this is your VERY last chance to avoid spoilers.
Don't say you weren't warned.
Proceed at your own risk.
Seriously, I can't be held responsible if you keep going from here.
Are you really sure you want to keep going?
The last, final, fini chance to turn around and forget this nonsense.
Ok, so you are really here. You really want to go on. To see what is behind the curtain. See what the sausage is really made of (one of my favorite authors has a section after each of her books she calls "Book Sausage" - talking about her inspirations for the book. Not for everyone but I find it fascinating. You should check out her books here. She even has a Christmas book!
All right, enough of that. So what is in the box?
Basically there is tray broken into 24 sections (duh!). There are six resin miniatures, 12 pieces of terrain crate furniture, another baggie of little details for your furniture, a pair of dice and counters.
Underneath the tray is the booklet with the rules for the game.
But let's see just how far this rabbit hole goes!
The furniture is from the Terrain Crate range - a bar, two tables with benches
A fireplace, round table, wine rack and two braziers. The round table in this box was a bit warped - which doesn't affect the game AT ALL, but doesn't look great. So was one of the brazier stands, but that would be trivia to fix with hot water. I'm not quite sure on the table.
The kegs are important, but the other final pieces just add a bit of flavor - chairs/stools for the round table. Mugs, plates, bottles and fire for the fireplace.
There are game counters. Of course there are not enough counters for all the players, but then that is the point, isn't it? There are six types of counters, and you need to get 5 different ones for a four player game. WHAT - you are surprised that I revealed some of the rules? What part of SPOILER did you not get?
With only 18 tokens it is mathematically impossible for all four players to get a set of five. In addition, the present, silverware are much rarer (only 2 of each), while the turkey and beer are the most common ( 4 of each, so everyone can have one). This actually adds some strategery to the game - which of the rarer tokens do you want to get - remembering that other players can try to steal what you have collected from your table.
The box shows two of them already. One thing to be aware of - the bases are NOT interchangeable. Each base has divots specifically for the corresponding miniature to help hold it in place.
The barkeep
While the separate bases make for higher quality miniatures (and these look fantastic!), it does inhibit this being immediately playable, as at a minimum you will have to clean and assemble these before playing (ideally painting them as well, but no one is going to go 24 days to get the final piece and then wait longer to play).
The Paladin
Ok, he had so little flash and nothing on his feet, so his picture before cleaning and after assembly are almost identical.
The next player figure is the dwarf
Then there is the Barbarian
Then there is the witch
The floppy hat and dress, plus the candy cane instead of a broomstick really makes this a great little model.
Finally is the bouncer
I am hoping to get everything painted up before the end of the month, then post each door as it is opened and the painted model behind it. The furniture will be quick and easy - the details on these models will be a bit of a challenge to do them justice.
I am really looking forward to seeing this full set painted up (by someone MUCH better than me) in the next Brush with Death competition!
Because it is all fun and games . . .
