Go to exciting new places

Join the Army, Visit exotic places, meet strange people, then kill them.

While I prefer the old rank and flank (why does that sound in my head just now like a bit of the old slap & tickle?), which is based on ancient warfare up through the middle ages, pretty much up until the late 1700's (I'm not a history geek, but the redcoats still used their old blocked formations).  Back then it was important to scout out locations for your battle, and you didn't want a lot of things like woods and buildings getting in the way.

Modern (and would sci-fi be post-modern) warfare seems to be much the opposite - it is rarely in open areas and more common in cramped quarters or even within cities.  Buildings and cover are all over the place.

When Mantic first released Deadzone it came with a modular plastic terrain, which could also be used for any other sci-fi wargame, be it set in the Galactic Co-prosperity Sphere or the war torn universe set 38,000 years in the future (which, if there is only war, how do they feed, clothe and arm their soldiers?  They have to be growing food somewhere!)

Mantic later repackaged these as Battlezones, and continued to add to the line.  They included 20th century brick components as well (first introduced with their Mars Attacks! game).

Now, after their most recent successful kickstarter, they are doing it again.  Terrain Crate is their new brand of terrain, and the are introducing it with four repackaged sets shipping November 30th.

The first set are the new Industrial Accessories for $29.99
Industry is the lifeblood of the GCPS. In times of war, the various heavy machinery and pipe networks serve as valuable, if volatile cover for combatants.

This set contains over 100 pieces of modular terrain, allowing you to construct a range of pipes and machinery that will provide plenty of cover for any wargame.
This set contains:

  • 2x Industrial Accessories Sprue A
  • 2x Industrial Accessories Sprue B

The industrial areas of the GCPS are swiftly abandoned in warzones, left to rot like those who staffed them. Many rusted derelicts serve as cover for ongoing battles in the outer spheres.

This set contains nearly 100 pieces of modular terrain including 48 Connectors, allowing you to construct a range of buildings that will provide plenty of cover for any wargame.
This set contains:

  • 1x Ruins Sprue 7.1
  • 1x Ruins Sprue 7.2
  • 1x Industrial Accessories Sprue B
  • 2x Industrial Walls Sprue 3
  • 1x Connectors

In the unregulated Outer Spheres of the GCPS, gang warfare is rife, representing a constant danger to colonists. These criminals can be found in brutal firefights with rivals over the crisscrossing gantries and walkways of the newly erected habitats.

This set contains nearly 250 pieces of modular terrain including 144 Connectors, allowing you to construct a range of buildings that will provide plenty of cover for any wargame.
This set contains:

  • 4x Ruins Sprue 7.1
  • 2x Ruins Sprue 7.2
  • 2x Industrial Walls Sprue 3
  • 2x Urban Sprue 1
  • 1x Urban Sprue 2.1
  • 1x Urban Sprue 2.2
  • 1x Accessories Sprue 3
  • 3x Connectors

Humanity fights wars on many fronts across the stars. As quickly as new a colony and infrastructure is established, it is ruined or abandoned to alien incursions. Many armies still fight over these collapsing structures, relying on what little cover they can provide; knowing that they have been abandoned, too.

This set contains nearly 420 pieces of modular terrain including 240 Connectors, allowing you to construct a range of buildings that will provide plenty of cover for any wargame.
This set contains:

  • 7x Ruins Sprue 7.1
  • 5x Ruins Sprue 7.2
  • 4x Urban Sprue 1
  • 4x Urban Sprue 2.1
  • 4x Urban Sprue 2.2
  • 1x Accessories Sprue 3
  • 5x Connectors

Because it is all fun and games . . .

  1. This is the first change up Mantic has done that I really really do not like. I feel that by consolidating the different themed parts it makes it harder to create something that is uniform. I've been building a Factory that can't be finished now because this chage up also eliminated certain sprues as well. :(

If they had offered these additions and also kept the original kits I think this would be different.
