June SW Ohio Mantic Pathfinder News

Can it really be June already?  Summer is here, and that means spending more time indoors painting and playing games.  Just kidding - get out there and let your alergies take over, get sunburned and dehydrated, get blisters from walking way farther than you ever do in the winter and just enjoy the weather!  But who am I kidding, most games avoid the sunshine at all cost (It burns!!!  It burns like Hygene!!!)

In real news is Origins. This is approaching at what feels like the speed of light - starting on June 14th and running through the 18th (yes, Father's day - but what better way to spend it than playing games with your kids (or friends, or even complete strangers)).  This is the big event for the Ohio War Kings, and we have 35 events we will be running - from the always popular Learn to Play: Kings of War to the new Learn to Play: Warpath.  Come and duke it out at the Mega-Battle on Thursday night, show your generalship as you play with 4 different 1000 pt armies in the How You Use It! tournament on Friday evening, or get in on the 2000 pt Kings of War Tournament on Saturday.  There are also other fun events - like the Deadzone, Dungeon Saga and even a Monster Mash.  While we (ok, me) had issues getting our events in (because I'm an idiot), they are all there and available to register on site. Or just walk up and use generics!

Mantic is currently shipping wave 2 of the Walking Dead kickstarter - and it has started showing up (I just got a Fedex notification that I'm guess is my shipment).  Plus The Forge Father tanks are also shipping (I'm waiting because I also have Veer-myn tunnelers coming, meaning once again at the last of the list).

Speaking of the Walking Dead - I will be running demos on Saturday, June 10th in Dublin OH during the official grand opening of the Orc's Forge Games.  This is a great new store, with 8 miniature tables, lots of board game tables and even a section for painting.  Come out and try this fun, quick game or just say hi!

Mantic is getting ready for their summer campaign running in August and September (the events at Gencon may count towards this, we aren't sure yet).  I'd love to give you more details on this, but at this point you know as much as I do.  There is a book in the works, but it isn't yet available.  There will be some new models, special characters that will have a Dungeon Saga adventure (or entire expansion, I'm not sure) based around them.

Star Saga is chugging along, and I hope to be able to get a group together soon (because I have so much free time) to do some more playtesting of the final version before it goes to print.  The pictures of new nameless models are really impressive - I really can't wait to play them in Deadzone or Warpath.

Dreadball II is still delayed and is not expected to be released before 1st quarter next year, though they hope to have all the kickstarter shipments out before Christmas.  That isn't stopping us from having a Dreadball tournament Friday night at Origins though!

In addition to Origins and Gencon, The Ohio War Kings are stepping up their game, and working on becoming a real club.  (Kind of like a geeky version of Pinochio I guess).  As part of this, we are splitting our meeting LOCATIONS - meeting the 1st, 3rd (and 5th, if there is one, like there is in June) Fridays at Epic Loot in Centerville.  This is a great store, and now carries Mantic product (plus they are set up to order directly - so this is a great place to special order anything you need).  The 2nd and 4th Fridays we will still be at The Hobby Shop.

But not only this, we are going to be formalizing our membership soon.  This is chiefly a fund-raiser as we want to start running more and bigger events (and also lessen the out of pocket expenses for the events we have been running).  I am looking at five membership levels, running from FREE to Unobtainable.  Each level includes all the benefits of the levels beneath it.  Check out the club page (at http://blog.untilsomebodylosesaneye.net/p/ohio-war-kings.html for more details).  Our goals will be to run our own two-day Kings of War Grand Tournament in the Dayton area in the spring of 2018, as well as continue to add run more and bigger events at Origins and Gencon.

Were you interested in buying an Ohio War Kings Messenger Bag?  We have a few (5) available right now for $20, plus button up shirts (sizes XL, 2Xl and 3XL) and polos (XL & 2XL) for $25.

If you can't get enough of me babbling on about games and hobbies, please check out my blog at http://blog.untilsomebodylosesaneye.net/ .  Somehow this past year I've managed to find enough to update twice a week (Monday and Thursday at 6:00 pm) and I hope to continue to share my bizarre thoughts with you all throughout the coming year.
