Da Warpath: Full of Win!

Well Da Beech Boyz have had their first outing. The sun was out, the water was warm, and much krumpin' was done.

When all the sand was cleared away, da boyz walked off with both "Best Appearance" and "General's Choice" at the Origins 2011 Indy GT this past Saturday, June 25. It may be small ( only 16 people ) but I'm happy. (My son won "Best Tactician as well")

Next up is the big one for me - Buckeye Battles. Right now they are sold out at 88 seats, so it is a wee bit bigger.

Anyway, here is a shot of the winning army with the awards - they do engraved flasks as awards.

I just thought I would share that this video of the army that a guy put up on his video blog after origins:

-----

One more update - da beech boyz won General's Choice at the 5th annual
Buckeye Battles. I'm a bit psyched about this, as it was the biggest tournament I've been to in 7 years (84 people).

Da Warpath: Money Shot

One last update before the first tournament for Da Beach Boyz.

First the promised picture of the entire army on the display board:

One thing I decided to add was a custom turn counter. I really love this figure, and while I don't have a squig herd - I got two of them when buying the squigs for the hoppers, so I couldn't resist having the ng roasting a snotling over a campfire like a marshmallow. The goblin revolves around the campfire to toast him evenly, with the end of his stick pointing to the current turn.

So I head to Origins on Thursday morning, and the tournament is on Saturday.

Da Warpath : With a week to spare

With over a week to spare, I have the army finished. I am now working on the display board:

What, you want to see pics of models, not boring display boards?

Ok, here are pics of the fanatics (i.e. jellyfish, octopus and squid)

I want to get a nice shot of the entire army, but that will have to wait for the display board to dry (and for me to touch up the border).

Thanks for all the great support and feedback. I will be premiering the army at
Origins on June 25th, then they will be at the Buckeye Battles GT on July 9 & 10.

Also, I was just asked to bring the UGPS (the United Greenskin Postal Service ) back to my local store, The Krystal Keep in Kettering OH for display due to popular request, so they will soon be unpacked and back out for everyone to see.

Tried the boar boy banner but it failed :-(, so try again tonight.

Finally built the sail for the BSB - he is almost done (the board is a bit bare right now)

Da Warpath: Lots more done

got a lot of work done this weekend ( probably because I took Friday off ). I finished the boar boyz and savage orcs (except for the banners), as well as the shaman and general. The BSB is nearly done (waiting for the water effects holding the surfboard to the base to dry). The Octopus and Squid are done, and just still waiting for the water effects on the jellyfish to dry clear (this I sped up by removing the outer shell. I was going to rebuild it, but it popped off clean and is allowing it to dry faster. In addition the arachnarok is almost done. Still need to paint the victim in it's claw.

The last thing now is banners - and I still don't know what to put on the Night Goblins or Boar Boyz banners yet.

Ok, so here are the Savage Orcs:

Da Warpath: tick, tick, tick

It has been a week or so, so I thought I should give an update. Nothing new is finished, but a lot of progress is going on, and the timer is ticking (three weeks as of today).

First, the savage orc boyz working out on muscle beach. I just finished the first highlight on their skin tonight:

Then the savage orc boar boyz riding the jetskis. I'm not real happy with the jetskis so far, so we'll see what I have time to do. The boyz have shading but no highlights. At this point everything is blue-tacked together:

Work on the characters continues - again with the first highlight on the skin.

The general on trike:

The windsurfing BSB:

And the shaman

Also working on the fanatics. The octopus and squid both are shaded:

The jellyfish is slowly drying. The water effects filling theshell should eventually be clear (I hope):

Finally, a couple of WIP of the arachnarok lobster, with and without the howda

Da Warpath: Jellyfish

The plan is to get one of those little clear plastic gumball containers, then maybe add some strands of fishing line around the outside. Then use clear Valejo water effects to bulk up the tentacles and body. Add a little white paint in the center and bulk up a central stalk that hides the brass rod holding it to the base.

I'll have to give it a try and see what happens!

So here is the start:

If this doesn't work out then my next idea is to simply check out the fishing lures (rubber worms, etc) at Wal-Mart and see what I might be able to make out of them.

Da Warpath: Fanatic about Pamela

ok, just a few more updates.

I spent the weekend taking my son to the 2nd round of 'Ard Boyz (he got 6th), so I didn't have much time to paint, though I did take advantage of the huge bins of bits at The Game Room in Toledo, Ohio (a highly recommended store for anyone in that neck of the woods (Daryl also has his bits out at Adepticon, Origins and Gencon every year)) to get the pieces for two of the fanatics:

The third one will be a jelly fish - that is a bit trickier as I want it to basically be clear - so it can't be made out of greenstuff.

And an updated WIP of the shaman

Da Warpath: She sells sea shells

Progress report:

I didn't like the little molded banner that came with the skull pass night goblins, so I swapped it out, and made the basing consistent on all the night goblins. Painting, shells and sand later and they are all done except for the whatever is going on the banner - I don't know what to put on there yet.

Savage orcs & boar boyz are primed, as are the jet skis. I found some great pin stripes at the hobby shop for them - unfortunately they are $10 per color, and I would want more than one color. I need to look to see if I can find some that have multiple colors on them, as my skills at paint perfect straight lines leave much to be desired.

So the only thing left to assemble are the fanatics - and I'm thinking now of doing an octopus, squid and jellyfish for the three fanatics.

As always, comments are encouraged.
